Mastering Quick Ball Movement: The One-Touch Passing Drill

In ball hockey, speed and precision are critical for power plays, breakouts, and overall offensive flow. A strong passing game can make the difference between a well-executed attack and a broken play. Today, we’re introducing the One-Touch Passing Drill, a simple yet effective training addition to improve ball movement, decision-making, and defensive anticipation.

Drill Overview

The One-Touch Passing Drill is designed to:
Improve passing speed and accuracy
Help players react quickly under pressure
Enhance defensive anticipation skills

This fast-paced drill ensures that players keep the ball moving while training one player to break up passes and read plays defensively.

How the Drill Works

Setup:

  • Four players form a circle around a faceoff dot.
  • One player stands in the middle as the defender.
  • One ball is in play at all times.

Passing and Defensive Rotation:

1️⃣ The first player passes to any of the three teammates in the circle.
2️⃣ The player in the middle tries to intercept the pass.
3️⃣ The receiving player must immediately make a one-touch pass to another teammate.
4️⃣ The ball should never stop moving—quick, one-touch passes keep the pace high.
5️⃣ The defender stays in the middle until they successfully intercept a pass.
6️⃣ Once a pass is intercepted, the player who made the intercepted pass moves to the middle and becomes the new defender.

Why This Drill Matters

This drill isn’t just about passing—it’s about decision-making, ball control, and reading the game at high speed. It helps players anticipate where the ball will go, make fast adjustments, and execute sharp, clean passes under pressure.
