World Ball Hockey Federation (WBHF) Masters 35+ Championship Preview

The World Ball Hockey Federation (WBHF) Masters 35+ Championship kicks off this week, running from June 4-9 at the Paramount Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.  This 5-on-5 format event will feature both Men’s and Women’s Divisions.

Men’s Division

The Men’s Division will feature 8 teams, including perennial favourites, Canada and Czechia.  Missing from this year’s tournament are the 2018 Bronze medal winners, Slovakia, which should open the door to some of the other strong teams in the grouping.

Participants this year include:

  • Canada
  • Czechia
  • Team Europe 1
  • West Indies
  • India
  • Great Britain
  • Ireland
  • Team Europe 2

Team To Watch

Canada and Czechia are the obvious favourites going into this years tournament and it should be expected that they will both be in the mix for a Gold Medal.  Outside of these two, we’re expecting strong play out of Team Europe and Great Britain.  Both played well at the 2018 3-on-3 Masters event and will push the tournament favourites.

Women’s Division

The Women’s Division features four teams including:

  • North America
  • Great Britain
  • Team Europe
  • Canada

Teams To Watch

Team Canada will likely be the favourite coming into the event however, we’ve seen dramatic growth out of the Great Britain program over the past year.  The other team to keep your eye on is North America.  This hybrid Canada/USA team should challenge for a medal.

Games kick off June 4 at 6 p.m. EST with the Men’s Gold Medal game culminating the event on June 9 at 4:15 p.m.  For the full schedule and results, visit the WBHF website.
