It’s almost the weekend, and with the weekend comes come more ball hockey action! Just because there aren’t as many tournaments happening as we move into the colder months, doesn’t mean the events will be any less exciting. This weekend will see the All Ontario Cup (AOC) – Deb Lamont Memorial Ladies & Coed tournament, and we’re here to fill you in on the details.
The tournament will be held this upcoming Saturday, Sept. 9th through Sunday, Sept 10th at Ball Hockey International (BHi) Brantford. Those interested in catching some games are encouraged to come by the rink between 9:00am on Saturday and 6:00pm Sunday to witness the action in person.
The Deb Lamont Memorial Cup was put in place as a way to commemorate Debbie Mallais Lamont – a Brantford native and ball hockey enthusiast – who sadly passed in 2015. Debbie’s memory lives on through the sport she loved though, and attendees of the tournament will be celebrating her life as they do what they enjoy most – compete in some ball hockey.
What better way to honour the memory of a beloved ball hockey player than by naming a tournament after them? Though she has passed, Debbie would surely be overjoyed at the thought of so many people from the Niagara and London regions coming out to compete in a tournament with her namesake geared towards women and coed players in her hometown of Brantford.
