Tier 1 Update – 11.28.17

With the end of the regular season just under a month away the Winter Premier Division action is heating up as teams continue to jostle for positioning.  Week 11 featured three games on the schedule.  Here’s the rundown:

Wednesday, November 22 at 8 p.m.  Barrie Flyers vs. Niagara War Pigs

On Wednesday night, the Barrie Flyers (0-10) hosted the Niagara War Pigs (6-4) at the Hangar.  This was an important game for the War Pigs as they looked to solidify their hold on second place in the division and creep up on the first place Metro Orangemen.  The WarPigs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but Wyatt Chesson picked up a power play goal late in the first period to make the score 2-1.

The second half would be a completely different story as the Flyers would storm out of the game on a goal from Tyler Yerex just over 3 minutes in, and they would never look back.  The Flyers would go on to score 4 unanswered goals in the half enroute to a 5-2 win and their first victory of the season.

Barrie’s Tyler Yerex would lead all runners on the night with 5 points (3G 2A).  Andrew Jegg was the leading War Pigs’ runner with 2 points (2A)

Wednesday, November 22 at 9:20 p.m. Metro Orangemen vs. North York Hitmen

Later that evening the first place Metro Orangemen (7-3) took on the fourth place North York Hitmen (6-4).  The Orangemen were looking to bounce back after last week’s loss to Brampton, and they would be the first on the board with back to back goals from Terry Roache and Richard Pires.  North York’s Matthew Bernardo would get the Hitmen on the board with about 6 minutes remaining in the half but the Orangemen would take a 2-1 lead into the second.

Metro would come out strong in the second again with two goals in quick succession just under 8 minutes in.  They would ride this 4-1 lead through the half, holding the Hitmen to just one more goal, going on to a 4-2 victory.

Metro’s Richard Pires led all runners on the night with 3 points (2G 1A) while North York’s Jonathan Pulicicchio would lead the way for the Hitmen with 2 points (2A).

Friday, November 24 at 8 p.m. Brampton Express vs. Vaughan Red Wings

The last game of Week 11 featured the Brampton Express (5-3) taking on the Vaughan Red Wings (6-4).  The first half would be all Express as they would quickly build a 4-0 lead in the first on goals image of: brampton express logofrom Anthony Quattrociocchi, Adam Bevilacqua, Jazz Singh, and Yusuf Ahmed.

It would be more of the same in the second as the Express would cruise to an 8-1 victory.
