CBHA  Jr. Nationals

The 2018 Boy’s U15, U17, U19, and Girls U19 Junior National Championships were hosted by the Canadian Ball Hockey Association (CBHA) and the New Brunswick Ball Hockey Association (NBBHA) in Fredericton, NB last weekend from July 26th through the 29th. Here’s how everything shook down

Boys’ U15

The gold medal games took place between the Manitoba Grasshoppers and Withrow Park (A Pool), and the Guelph Cyclones and Edmonton Panthers (B pool). Withrow Park started out strong, but the Manitoba Grasshoppers had them beat in the final with a score of 5-2. B pool saw a closer game, but the Panthers beat the Cyclones 3-2. The BC Wolverines and NL Selects took home the Bronze medal in the A and B pool respectively.

The finals in this division came down to NL Selects and BC Thunder in the A pool, and Kitchener-Waterloo Rangers image of: NL Selectsand Manitoba Bison in the B pool. NL Selects proved they ‘selected’ the right players when they took the win with a final 5-3 score, meanwhile the Kitchener-Waterloo Rangers eked out the win with a score of 3-2 in the B pool. New Tecumseth Xtreme and Team Alberta went on to win the Bronze medal in the A and B pools respectively.

New Tecumseth Xtreme and NL Selects would face off in the A Pool while Team Quebec faced off against the image of: New Tecumseth XtremeEdmonton Admirals in B pool. New Tecumseth were on fire during the elimination round and carried their momentum through the final game. It was a close one, but they ended up winning with a 3-2 score. The same could be said for Team Quebec, despite coming out of the round robin in last place, they showed everyone what they were made of and won the B pool gold medal with a score of 5-4. The bronze went to TeamBC West Coast Express and New Brunswick Selects in A and B pool respectively.

Girls U19

The final game in the girls’ division was a little unexpected, as Team Ontario Red managed to cover some ground andimage of: Team Ontario Red beat Team NL. They took their one goal lead and held onto it, making them the champions of the division. The bronze medal game was a heated match between the top two teams coming out of the round robin, but Team Ontario White managed to take the win over New Brunswick Selects with a score of 3-0.

That did it for the Junior Nationals. These young players left it all on the floor last weekend and played some impressive games of ball hockey. Congratulations to all the winning teams in your respective divisions.
